Curating the New Voices of the West

As editors and publishers at some of the most beloved literary magazines and presses in the West, our panelists have a responsibility to both the legacy of their publications as well as the future that they usher in with each new issue and book they publish. Names like Hugo, Welch, and Stegner once graced the pages of these magazines, and the weight of their contributions—toward an ethos of the West as both a geography and a community—are lasting. But what do the new voices of the West sound like? And how do today’s literary magazine editors and small press publishers find them? At this panel, you’ll hear from eight editors and publishers at High Desert Journal, Poetry Northwest, Basalt, CutBank, Camas, and YesYes Books about what they’ve found and what they’re still looking for.
