Gary Eldon Peter

Gary Eldon Peter’s short fiction has appeared in Water~Stone Review, Great River Review, Queer Voices, and other publications and has been performed on Selected Shorts on National Public Radio. Oranges, his linked short story collection, won the 2016 New Rivers Press Many Voices Project competition and was published in 2018 by New Rivers. It also received the Midwest Book Award and was a finalist for the Minnesota Book Award and the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Sarah Lawrence College and a JD from William Mitchell College of Law. He has been awarded residencies to the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Ragdale Foundation, the Millay Colony for the Arts, the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, and the Hawthornden Castle International Retreat for Writers in Edinburgh, Scotland. Born and raised in Austin, MN, he is currently a faculty member in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota and lives in St. Paul.
